[Invitation] Bruno Bastos do Nascimento, Brazil

Nascimento is a Brazilian conductor from the Amazon State, currently conducting the UCLA
Symphony and working as a professor at the Amazon Federal University (UFAM). He has studied
conducting under Marcelo de Jesus (Brazil), Gustavo Medina (Venezuela), Sandino Hohaggen (Brazil),
Claudio Cruz (Brazil), Edward Dolbashian (USA), Daisuke Soga (Japan), and Neil Stulberg (USA), and
Achim Holub (Austria). As a pianist, he has studied with Nivea Scapin (Brazil), Irina Kasak (Azerbaijan),
Mi Duk Hong (South Korea), and Natalia Bolshakova (Russia) - accumulating extensive experience in
collaborative piano with instrumentalists, opera coach for singers, and performing in Brazi, USA, and
South Korea.
 In his Brazil debut in 2012, Nascimento conducted Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 “Eroica” in the
Londrina Music Festival. Dedicated to serving youth music education, Nascimento has established
educational and performance exchanges in Brazil, the USA, Japan, and South Korea, providing
international opportunities for numerous students.  

 


 

Nascimento has guest conducted in Amazon Philharmonic (Brazil), Amazon Chamber Orchestra
(Brazil), Amazon Youth Orchestra (Brazil), Boa Vista Chamber Orchestra (Brazil), University of the
Amazon State Orchestra (Brazil), and Columbia Civic Orchestra (USA). His assistant conductor
positions include those with the Amazon Philharmonic (Brazil), Amazon Opera Festival (Brazil),
University of Missouri Philharmonia (USA), and UCLA Philharmonia (USA), in addition to serving as
conductor for the French Alliance Chamber Orchestra (Brazil) and UCLA Symphony (USA).


 Dedicated to his academic pursuit for music studies, Nascimento has graduated in conducting at
the State University of the Amazon-Brazil 2009 and in 2017 received a master’s degree from the
University of Missouri-USA in orchestral conducting, during which he was elected as a member at the National Music Honor Society (USA). He has been a member of the faculty of the Arts and Music School of the Amazon Federal University-Brazil since 2010, recently accepting the invitation to be a part of the Amazon Academy of Music. Currently, Nascimento is in his third year of UCLA’s DMA
program in orchestral conducting, studying with Neal Stulberg.
